Phits Customised Orthotics
Good enough for Paula Radcliffe, good enough for us!
What is an orthotic?
Orthotics are a widely used treatment for a multitude of complaints. An orthotic is a shaped insole that fits in footwear to offer support to the underside of the foot. They can help to alleviate pain and reduce pressure by spreading the load more evenly. Additional alterations or customised shapes may be introduced to give the orthotic more functionality. Orthotics can be used not only for treatment but also for preventative management of possible future injury, as with top athletes and sportspeople.
What's the difference with Phits?
Phits are 3D printed orthotics created directly from the results produced from our Foot Scan gait analysis system. A pressure distribution is measured when walking across the force plate on the ground and is sent to a computer which calculates the pressure distribution. The data is analysed and a 3D printed orthotic is produced with specific prescription to help resolve or reduce risk of injury.
Pretty space age stuff!
Well yes and no, while 3D printing is starting to be more acknowledged for the accuracy it can reproduce a design, the reality is the technology has been around for nearly 30 years, and has indeed been used to produce items that have gone to space. But over 30 years the materials and technology have evolved and improved, this means that orthotics that require different structure or elements within the same item have become increasingly possible. This is what sets Phits apart, the structure of orthotics is produced with the smallest of details taken into consideration to give our patients the best outcomes.
